Noor Aliya Jan-Mohamed

Senior Planning and Project Officer

About

Noor is an architect with experience across a variety of sectors and scales, having worked for award-winning architectural firms both in the UK and internationally. Before becoming an Associate, she worked at Burd Haward Architects, where she assisted in the delivery of cultural and historical projects in sensitive sites, residential schemes and the development of a housing-led masterplan. While completing her master’s, she won two community-led competitions, working alongside her colleagues to deliver small projects in the North East of England.

She also acted as a design tutor and seminar leader at Newcastle University, focussing on interrogating the way that architecture is influenced by social constructs and how this has often resulted in the voices of the most marginalised in society being left unheard or underrepresented.

Autumn Cohort 2022

Newcastle City Council

Noor was matched with the role of Senior Planning & Project Officer at Newcastle City Council, where she worked across the Economic Development and Planning Teams. She collaborated with the Planning Team to develop guidance for neighbourhood development and conducted research on how new approaches could be integrated into future policies.

Her role in Planning saw her focus on policy, where she helped develop guidance and researched new approaches to neighbourhood development and how these could be integrated into future policies.

Within Economic Development, she worked on a High Street Regeneration project in the east of the city. This involved many tasks, from writing briefs to engaging with local communities.
