Introduction

Demystifying the PPP process in England, from why they exist to the opportunities and challenges involved.

This CPD offers an overview of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the context of development projects. Designed for architects and other built environment professionals, the session offers an understanding of how public-private partnerships function, the opportunities they present and the challenges involved.

Participants will gain insights into the key principles of PPPs, the structure and mechanisms of different models, legal and financial risks and rewards, and key stages of the process. The session will explore collaboration between different partners and provide insights into how PPPs to deliver urban regeneration, infrastructure, and development projects.

Who is this for?

This CPD is essential for built environment professionals who want to deepen their understanding of public-private partnerships and enhance their ability to participate in and manage successful partnerships. It assumes some existing knowledge of the built environment industry and is recommended for those with some practical experience.

Through the 90-minute session, it will provide an overview of:

  • Key features of public-private partnerships
  • The role of PPPs in delivering infrastructure and development
  • Overview of different PPP models and approaches
  • Principles of legal and financial risk and reward
  • Key stages in the PPP process, from initiation to operation
  • Procurement and contract management of PPPs
  • Performance monitoring and value for money
  • The role of local and central government, and the private sector (developers, contractors and consultants) in optimising PPPs

  • Understand the role of PPPs in delivering infrastructure and development in England, the different models, and the principles of legal and financial risk and reward

  • Learn about the different stages of the PPP process, including project initiation, procurement, and performance monitoring

  • Gain insights on how local government and the private sector can collaborate to leverage the opportunities and overcome the challenges presented by PPP

Format

The CPD will be hosted live, online via Zoom and will last 90 minutes. There will be a short break during the session and live captions available throughout.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions through the Q&A function and can take part in poll questions as optional. Some very short readings and additional links will be shared with participants at the end of the session after completing a feedback form.
